The Mi 5 is coming to India in a month's time, says Hugo Barra


At the Redmi Note 3 launch event that was held at New Delhi, The Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has announced that its next flagship smartphone - the Mi 5 will launch in India in April. The company does not specify an exact launch date, but Smartphone was recently globally unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. 

"The Mi 5 is coming to India in a month's time," said Hugo Barra, VP Global Operations, Xiaomi.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will be available in three variants, 32 GB internal storage and 3GB RAM variant is priced at RMB 1999 (Approx. Rs 20,500), 64GB internal storage and 3GB RAM variant is priced at RMB 2299 (Approx Rs 23,600) and 128GB internal storage and 4GB RAM variant will be available at a price of RMB 2699 (Approx Rs 27,800).


The Mi 5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. It has a 5.15-inch IPS fullHD display and brightens levels of 600 nits. The Mi 5 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MiUI 7 operating system.

Out of the box, The Mi 5 come with the 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, Dual-LED flash and a 4-megapixel camera front facing camera. The Smartphone packs with a 3,000mAh battery and weighs 129 grams. The Smartphone is made out of aluminium which is sandwiched in glass on both sides. Its home button features a fingerprint sensor.

Along with this, The company also announced Xiaomi Mi Bluetooth speaker for the Indian market which carries a price tag of Rs. 1,999, the speaker will be available in Gold, Blue, and Pink colours. 

Mi Bluetooth speaker features the aluminium body and weighs 270 grams. It support microSD card and comes with a built-in microphone. It allows Users to take calls automatically from the speaker without switching to the phone. It can offer up to 8 hours of music playback.

If the Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone launches by April, India may become one of the first markets to sell the flagship outside China. Hugo Barra revealed that the company received a massive 1.6 crore registrations for the Mi 5, which went on sale in China on Monday. He had previously confirmed that the flagship will be available first in - Brazil, China, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
